The Source Squads Process asks students to facilitate historical thinking in their Squads, not to divide the labor like in a jigsaw.
For example, the Sourcer’s responsibility is not to source the document; it is to guide the Squad’s sourcing of the historical material through annotation and discussion prompts on their role card.

Sources Squads was designed for any U.S. History student in grades 6-12. We believe that all students can learn to read through a historical lens with the right supports.
Source Squads provides equitable access to those skills through a replicable learning framework, along with sources tiered to different levels of sources.

Generally, no. Teachers can adapt the expectations of a lesson based on time and ability of the students. As the school year progresses, students will typically be able to interpret more sources over one lesson as they become more comfortable with the strategy.

2025-26 Subscriptions
Role Cards and Dry Erase Markers will begin shipment in July 2025.
Beginning on July 15, subscribers will receive an email with a link to a Google Folder with lesson plans, inquiry maps, and squad goals for their Supplemental Curriculum, along with an Instructional Guide.

Subscribers are invited to attend a Source Squad Academy over the summer, a virtual training in which they learn the Source Squads Process and experience it themselves through the modeling of 1-2 lessons.
Additionally, subscribers are given access to our Instructional Guide that contains a variety to teacher tips and other supports for educators.

Absolutely! Source Squads works with any lesson that asks students to interrogate historical materials.
Currently, a supplemental curriculum for World History is in development. We are actively seeking feedback on lesson topics and primary sources you would like to see. Take this survey so we can best build the curriculum for you!
